Catz student selected for 2022 Men’s Boat Race

Tuesday 8 March 2022

St Catharine’s MBA student James Hunter has been selected to represent Cambridge in the 2022 The Gemini Boat Race. The Oxford and Cambridge Men's Blue Boats for were officially revealed on 7 March.

James is a former Lightweight international rower, two-time World Championship Silver medallist as a Lightweight and a World Championship Bronze medallist in the Openweight Coxless pair.

James commented, “Being named in the Blue Boat is a huge privilege. The journey to gain your seat in this boat is rarely an easy one, but having these eight other great guys around me has made a huge difference – laughs are not in short supply. The combination of the Boat Race’s racing format and tradition makes it a truly unique event and it is an experience that I am wholeheartedly looking forward to.”

Joining James in the Blue Boat are three former Blues: Charlie Marcus (President and Cox), James Bernard and Ollie Parish. Alongside them are two GB 2020 Olympic Bronze medallists, Tom George and Ollie Wynne-Griffith, and Simon Scheurch, who won the 2016 Olympic Gold Medal in the Swiss Lightweight Coxless Four. Australian U23 international and former Cal Berkeley rower George Finlayson and undergraduate Luca Ferraro complete the Cambridge line up.

The Boat Race was one of the first large-scale events to be cancelled in 2020, and was relocated to Ely in 2021. The 2022 crews will race between Putney and Mortlake on the Championship Course for the 167th Men's Boat Race on 3 April. The Men’s Race will start at 15:23 GMT.
