The St Catharine’s collection includes a number of objects that are treasured by our community.
The value of some items might be clear from the precious materials used in their manufacture or the skill of a particular artist or craftsperson; others are cherished simply because they remind us of how the College has developed over time or because they are associated with our former Fellows, benefactors and alumni who are remembered fondly.
For an institution founded in 1473, it might seem surprising that a reasonable number of our treasured objects have come into our possession in the last hundred years. St Catharine’s fortunes were transformed by successive generations from the early 20th century onwards, after surviving periods of financial pressure. As a result, a large proportion of the College's collection was gifted by alumni or former Fellows over our recent decades.
