First-year undergraduate selected for Varsity squash team

Friday 14 February 2020

St Catharine’s Edward Wheeler (2019, Natural Sciences; pictured below) has been selected for the Cambridge University first squash team ahead of the upcoming Varsity match against the University of Oxford. He will play 3rd position and will be awarded a full Blue for representing the University.

The match will be played at the RAC Club in London at 4pm on 15 February 2020. The Cambridge squash team looks forward to regaining the upper hand after the 2019 Varsity match finished 0-5 in Oxford’s favour.

“Ed is a great player who has worked hard to qualify for the team in his first year. The rest of the team and I wish him the very best of luck for his match,” commented David Roper, captain of the Cambridge University Squash Rackets Club.

“I feel very fortunate to have made it into the University’s first team – the Varsity match is the culmination of all the time and energy that I’ve been able to invest in squash this year. I’m excited to see what the weekend brings!” added Edward Wheeler.
