Dr Miranda Griffin (2007, Senior Tutor and Fellow in MML)

It has been a true honour and privilege to be the first female Senior Tutor of the College. St Catharine's is such a special place because of the extraordinary people who work, teach and study here.

What is your favourite memory of Catz?

I have many wonderful memories of Catz, among them, some of my standout memories are:

  • Leading the graduands of 2019 through the College Gates onto King's Parade (with Toby the dog, the Master and the Praelector).
  • Getting drunk with Sir Ian McKellen in the Master's garden.
  • Telling Professor Dame Jean Thomas that she absolutely had to get her portrait painted because I was fed up of my daughters coming into college and asking me who all the men in the portraits were.
  • A male Fellow asking me why I wasn't wearing blue stockings and responding that it was probably because it was the twenty-first century.

Who is your greatest positive influence at St Catharine's, and how and why did they inspire you?

My incredible students: they are so brilliant, wise, courageous, funny, determined and caring.
