St Catharine’s Fellow and Henry Philpott College Lecturer in English, Dr Caroline Gonda, has had an essay published in the Catalogue from the Barbican’s Modern Couples Exhibition. Dr Gonda’s essay focused on the relationship between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West, and the impact it had on their writing, and ties in well with the current exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Virginia Woolf: An exhibition inspired by her writings.
This essay follows on from a piece Dr Gonda wrote for the Catalogue of Tate Britain’s 2017 exhibition Queer British Art 1861-1967, where she focused on how Woolf, Sackville-West and other artists and writers of the period challenged conventional models of sex, gender, identity and sexuality.
Modern Couples at the Barbican runs until 27 January 2019. Virginia Woolf at the Fitzwilliam runs until 9 December 2018.
