Dr David Bainbridge, the College's fellow in Veterinary Medicine, turned temporary art historian with the publication of his latest book Stripped Bare - The Art of Animal Anatomy.

Tracing depictions of animal structure from prehistory to contemporary street art, the book demonstrates how artists have exploited the visual impact of animal bone and flesh. Leonardo da Vinci copied animal skeletons to design his war machines, George Stubbs regularly wallowed in equine viscera during his artistic training, and Georgia O'Keefe made bleached bones the symbol of the American Southwest. In Dr Bainbridge’s book, all animal life is there, dissected and depicted.
