12pm-2pm in the OCR
The final library exhibition of this academic year will take place next Wednesday, at lunchtime, in the OCR.
It's three hundred years since the death of Adam Buddle, cleric and botanist, and onetime student and Fellow of St Catharine's. To mark this anniversary, we'll be exhibiting some of the College Library's fine collection of early botanical books.
The volumes on display will include those associated with two members of St Catharine's whose influence lasts to the present day: John Addenbrooke and John Ray. They're beautifully illustrated, but they're also interesting for the light they shed on a nascent discipline with multiple influences: scientific and medicinal curiosity, colonial expansion, and garden design, among others.
