St Catharine’s Fellow and Professor of European History at the Faculty of History, Professor Nora Berend, travelled to a ceremony in Sweden to receive her honorary doctorate from the University of Stockholm. All of the recipients were recognised for contributing in distinctive ways to the University’s activities in research and education.

Professor Berend is best known for her work on medieval religious minorities, and on processes of Christianisation. As a visiting professor at Stockholm University, she has fostered collaborative research on medieval Scandinavia and stronger ties for medievalist graduate students and scholars between Stockholm and Cambridge.
