Dr James Olsen

Dr James Olsen is an Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Music. His research interests include the theory and analysis of music from the eighteenth century to the present, hermeneutics, and music literacy.

He is a Trustee and the Widening Participation and Outreach Officer of the Society for Music Analysis, and in July 2024 convened the First Summit on Music Literacy which took place at St Catharine’s.

James is also the founder of music publishing company Olsen Verlag, and a composer. His works have been performed by, amongst others, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta and Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
