Dr James Richardson

Bye-Fellow

James is an engineer and a Bye-Fellow at St Catherine’s College, where he supervises IA and IB thermofluids. His research focuses on the fluid mechanics of air flows in buildings, particularly the flow patterns that emerge when warm air is introduced into a room. This requires understanding the motion of the buoyant warm air, and assessing the impact of the room geometry, such as the size of any windows. His approach combines theoretical modelling based on fundamental fluid mechanics with flow visualisations and measurements from laboratory experiments. James completed both his undergraduate study and PhD in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge.
