Rowing
Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) topped the tables in a number of categories at the GB Trials on 12 February. Matt Edge (fourth-year Natural Sciences undergraduate) secured a comfortable win in the U23 lightweight men’s single race (CUBC)
Basketball
Thanks to “good defence and morale throughout the game”, the men’s basketball team was able to secure a 68-23 victory over Queens’. (The Kittbag)
Table tennis
On 12 February, Sonja Osbild and Anika Liu both (both postgraduate students in the Department of Chemistry) competed in BUCS Women’s Midlands Tier 2 matches in Nottingham for the University of Cambridge’s (first and only!) Women’s Team. The University is now ranked first in the league after Sonja and Anika won two out of three of their matches:
- 5-0 (walkover) against Leicester Women’s 1
- 5-0 against Nottingham Trent Women’s 3
- 0-5 against Nottingham Women’s 4
Karate
The University team put in a great performance at the Nottingham Invitational Competition, taking home eight medals. Maeve Brittle (a third-year Geography undergraduate) secured silver in the women’s team kumite. (Cambridge University Karate Club)
Netball
The women’s netball team won 10-1 against Pembroke – their first victory of 2022 and the debut match for Mercy Akinyele (an Engineering Master’s student). “Player of the match went to Ranya Kumar (a second-year Medical Sciences undergraduate) for some nippy play in centre court”. (The Kittbag)
Football
The College's men’s football team sadly lost their Cuppers quarter final match 2-3 against our neighbours Corpus Christi. Honourable mentions go to Daniel Sanchez (a first-year Engineering undergraduate) and Tobi Dairo (a first-year Medical Sciences undergraduate) for their “truly stunning strikes”. The College is still in contention for Division 2 in the Cambridge University Association Football League, with one point separating the top four teams. (The Kittbag)
Cheerleading
The Future Cheer UK University Nationals competition was were held in Manchester on 13 February, and Stephanie Olujinmi-Raji (a second-year Natural Sciences student) was part of the Cambridge Cougars Level 1 All Girl squad.
Athletics
Congratulations to Harry Cox (an Engineering Master’s student) who has been selected to represent Cambridge in the 800m race at the BUCS National Indoor Championships this weekend in Sheffield.
