Background
St Catharine’s traditionally award prizes each summer in recognition of our students’ exceptional academic achievements and their significant non-academic contributions to the College community. In 2022 the College awarded over £57,000 to over 170 students, for a College prize and scholarship because they had received a First or Distinction in their examinations.
Over 60 different prize funds are maintained by the College, many of which have been generously endowed by alumni. These are awarded in addition to the prizes bestowed by the University of Cambridge and its Departments. A further group of 90 students received an award from these prize funds.
Eligibility
Undergraduates who achieve a First Class results in a University Examination (or equivalent) are awarded both a scholarship (£100) and a College prize (£100). There is no application form/requirement for students as prizes are confirmed by Governing Body on receipt of examination results.
Other prizes recognising contributions to specific subjects or aspects of College life have their own specific eligibility criteria. These are awarded by the College’s Governing Body, based on nominations by Directors of Studies. Again, there is no application form/requirement for students.
Publicity
The names of prize winners are published annually in the St Catharine’s Magazine. In addition, the College may choose to work with specific students to publicise the details of specific prizes in order to further its charitable objectives at any point during the year, although this is not intended to imply that specific winners or prizes have greater value to the College than others.
